Kimball went one a long ladies weekend, a cruise to Mexico. Ten
ladies, one ship lord knows how many cocktails.
Kelley had
decided she should become an interior decorator. She is into TV Shoes While
You Were Out and Trading Spaces. We plotted for weeks. Here is
what we started with. For three years the windows had been half pained but not
scrapped. No curtains. (There were yucky blinds but I ripped them off the walls
even before I took the before picture, I didn't want to hurt the camera.)

Bought new sheets cheap (so cheap we got a backup set so one
could be in the laundry.) Kelley picked colors She has way better taste than I
do. (I nodded my head approvingly, thinking if this goes well there will be
enough glory to go around. If it tanks I blame the 11 year old designer - hey
I'm no fool) She picked colors that keyed off the new sheets
and Kim's comforter.
We swung into action. We painted the window a yellow that
picked up a the darker color of the comforter and new sheets. Above the rail we
pained a lighter shade of yellow and picked up a green from the floral patter to
accent the rail between.
We ditched the old non-matching dressers and scored some
freebies that looked a lot like the bed from a friend in on the plot. Turned the
bed 90 degrees and centered it on the windows.
My
sister Nina came over a taught Kelley how to sew curtains out of a set of sheets.
(Also
picked up when we bought the ones for the bed at the same post Christmas blow
out sale.) We used a strip one of the pillow cases to tie back the
curtains. (did I mention my smoking deal came with 4 pillow cases?) I was a little stumped for a way to close the tie backs but came up
with this as a final answerer.
I
made some boxes to hold up curtains out of some rail stuff we found at Lowes. We
weaved in a strip of fabric donated by the above mentioned pillow case to match
the sheets.
Tacked up a hanger for a plant and added some el cheapo Ikea
lamps. (Matching bed side lamps - what a concept! Only took 13 years of
marriage.)
I
bought a TV rack that screwed to the wall but I figured I would screw up putting
it up. I happened across an odd shaped piece of plywood on the basement floor (I
never throw anything out). A quick trip to a friend's who had a router
made a TV rack out of it. (Husband of the woman who donated the dressers -
Thanks Ric & Kelly!)
The finished Room!
