Barnes & Nobel Harry Potter PartyThanks to the crew at the Willow Grove PA Barnes & Nobel for a great Harry Potter Time! (Click any picture for a bigger view )
It was a dark and stormy night.... (well it has been a dark & stormy night
every night all Spring & Summer here. BN had a party planned. It started at 9:00pm, the book went on sale at 12:01 am, so naturally my kids had to be there at 7:30pm - it was as long as I could hold them off. (I scored a nice chair and test drove Edmund S. Morgan's new book on Ben Franklin. Great looking book, I'll buy a copy after I finish David McCullough John Adams book, oh yeah and read HP5 out loud to the boys.)
BN had some very nice ladies greeting us Potter fan as we arrived. I don't think they believed I would make a web site out of all this but they humored me.
It wasn't too crowded at 7:30. This would change.
They had a plan for it too.
They had a plan to help kill some time too, (unfortunately to see it cost me the Ben Franklin test drive and more valuable the comfy chair.) Here some of the kids are playing chess. Most of the kids are pieces. The young lady in blue in the foreground and our son Blair (yellow stripe background) were moving the "pieces around and playing the game. Blair won and much to his fathers happy surprise and pride walked immediately walked over and thanked his opponent for a nice game, that was better than winning IMHO. (OK so the nest game he was a piece and had a few tips for the players and he got to help hand out piece tags for the next game.) Connor (our other son was a Bishop) and can be seen pointing out a possible play in the first picture. He was dressed as George Weasley in Quiditch robs. Lots of folks dressed up but the only other red cape was BN's Waldo. Here he is! There were a lot of hats and black robes too. Delaney dressed as Hedwig. Here she is playing chess. Next game she was upgraded to King. There were a lot of Hermiones. I thought one of Blair's friends from school was way the best but she didn't have as loud a cheering sections in the costume contest and didn't win. BN was also giving away Harry Glasses and taking pictures. Here we are with Harry. Here a couple of the girls form Blair's school. BN's staff in action taking pictures. Delaney discovered there were no lenses in her glasses. The line at the Cafe was long and just kept getting longer. I can't understand why the cafe was so busy, it not like it crowded or anything. (the guy standing on the book table was an employee, so it wasn't like it was out of hand or anything. :) ) At some point a few books showed up. Everyone wanted to see one but the friendly staff was holding the books in safe keeping. We had the first ticket for the walking line! Wohoo! (We did get the re at 7:30 after all.) The kids were getting a little weary, but when the time came were were right at the front of the line. Got our books and were home in time to read a little for bet time, well OK it was 1:15 am when the kids went to bed, but we had a great time. Thanks Barnes & Nobel, Willow Grove.
